hi all
I never played in a tournament before; so a few of the guys I usually disc with signed up. It was ok, until we saw a few guys playing that are REALLY good ( for our standards) playing as novices WTF, how many novice players throw a 54 at the parkway? Sure as heck not me, maybe I suck-- but after talking to other ppl, it was their feeling as well. I know some guys like to get hard off of winning "tournaments" but try to play in you own bracket. I understand that the sportsfest ppl do not know everyone that plays in the tourn, but it is a small area and it seems that most people who play a lot know each other. In fact I saw the same guy (ringer) that was playing as an "novice" at the parkway not too long ago and all he did was brag about his skills. it was fun but there are at least 8 people that will not play in a disc tourny any more. |

i know a group of novice guys that were mad about that also and they did not even bother to throw the second round. I dont know the novice guys that shot the 54 but i did hear them say it was their first tournament. This being the case i can understand why they chose to play in novice and yet at the same time i would hope that the next tournament they play in they will play in a higher division. Dont let this bad experience deter you and your friends from continuing in tournament play.

There are baggers at every tournament, its just the way it is. Dont expect the TD to keep tabs on all the players progress from year to year to keep them from playing a certain skill level. I dont let baggers get to me, it just makes me want to play better.

I am one of the "baggers" being referred to and I also heard a lot of chatter at the tourney about this. Understandably a lot of people thought it odd that the novice division leaders were scoring so well, so I want to set the record straight (for myself at least) here.
1. I've never played in any tournaments ever. 2. That 59 was the best round of my life and is unlikely to happen again anytime soon, and I think it was damn good timing to shoot that round when it counted 3. I e-mailed TD months ago asking about divisions, and played in what I was told to play in. 4. Movin up to amateur next time. Publicized tournaments bring out people who haven't played competitively, and therefore don't know where they stand in the bigger scheme of things...which I know is the case for most (but not all) of the top finishers in both singles and doubles novice. Sorry for any discouragement I may have caused, it wasn't my intention! Everyone's gotta start somewhere! |

I think the original post was about doubles on sunday. Not singles on saturday. It is, what it is. Who cares. As to your 59...good round.

I have to agree with the whole "sandbagging" deal. It's just not right.
I am also to blame for this, cause I had done this at the Ammo at Jordan in June, in which I came in first place in the novice div. I never played in a tourney before and frankly I always considered my self a rec player. I shoot on an average of a 10+ at Jordan. On occasion I'll have a really good round (4 or 5+). But usually my putting sucks (Skippy and Ranger...stop laughing). I will however play in the Am div from now on there. |

wtf is right. the pro division was filled with a bunch of baggers as well!
i could not call this instance sandbagging. playing in the novice division is about experience...not skill...and most certainly not winning. once you have developed an understanding of the game, and have A "single" tournament experience under your belt... you should be playing am (read...not good, but likes to have fun). ... to the poster and the 8 that may not come again... i hope you come out august 1st to south mountain. you are getting a $15 dollar disc for your entry fee, and support the club which maintains a large majority of these courses on the backs of volunteers. |

first off I'd like to give props to the top 2 novice teams for their fine shooting and I hope you come out and play more tourneys.
Both teams I have not seen before so don't call them baggers. As Brandon stated, he emailed me and asked what division to play in and I suggest to play novice if you have never played before. Don't feel bad for playing good golf, both days I may add. Look, in the novice division it cost you 15 bucks a person and you each got to pick your choice of disc including champion plastic and a mini. So you are basically playing for free with the chance of winning more stuff and possibly a medal at sportsfest. There were prizes for top 6 teams so even if the top 2 teams were out your reach theres still 4 spots left. It was your first tourney, use it as learning experience. If everyone playing in their first tournament decided after the first round they played that they had no shot at winning and weren't going to play again there wouldn't be anybody at the tournament. I'm sure the pros weren't happy looking at a 45 either But they will be back 'cause the know that 2 Devin got on hole 6 was just lucky |

Understood about the disc, and that there will be good games.
also the issue is about doubles; we played behind some pros and they were making crazy shots. I agree that when you are competitive in a bracket; a few tourneys that you are competitively playing or winning should bump you up to the next bracket. Just kinda annoyed! |
