If anyone is interested, all of the gold pins are in the ground. It is by no means done, there is no map, the baskets aren't numbered correctly, the tees aren't in, there are no signs, and the lanes still need clearing but if you're adventurous and have a sherpa they can all be played. The first 7 are the most dirty but can be played, the only exception is hole number 3 but we've been cutting that one in half to avoid lost bees and to save 30 minutes. If anyone wants to know more PM me, I may be available for guided tours or at least be able to get you started if you were brave enough to give it a try. Count on about 3 hours for a threesome and close to 4 hours with a foursome.

Par is somewhere around 63 and that's with a shortened 3rd hole, otherwise it's maybe 65, as we play it there are at least three legit par 4's one par 4.5, as it plays now it's closer to par 5 (hole 3 from the regular tee will be another par 5 it's a par 3.5 now) two ace runs and maybe 7 or 8 par 3.5's. I think they are good tweeners where anything from a 2 to a 6 is possible, 2's are tough but possible and you earn them. 3 feels good but 4's aren't horrible as long as you don't 4 them all. I think 60 is close to scratch golf but that is only a guess.

It is tough, it is overgrown and tight at spots, it is still very raw and needs work, lots of work. If you are going to try it be prepared and use spotters if you have the guys. My best advice is to stay in the fairway. It's just that easy....

Tim,

Thank you very much for the honest assessment and status of the course.

I was out there a couple of weeks ago and was able to navigate my way through, although it took me a while. I did easily recognize that when finished this is going to be one of the toughest and very best courses in Pennsylvania, which is really saying something considering the number of world class courses we already have.

At least no one will have any illiusions about a finished product - it should now be well understood that it's a work in progress. All good things take time, and I applaud all the efforts that are going in to making the new course a reality.

Dang, haha. I always did exceptionally well at French Creek. It seems as if that might go down the drain. But alas, u only get better if you increase your challenges right?

An update:

6 tees are done on the new course, and it is more playable than it ever has been. The first 7 holes are looking better, we cut down some more trees and opened a few of the lanes. The lane on hole 3 has been cut considerably and we are now using the intended tee back by the second pin making for a true par 5. Trouble can still be found off to the left but smart, safe, and/or conservative throws will avoid danger and lost discs while still yielding a chance for the par 5. The tee on hole 4 was moved back a bit making it a more true par 4, and the first part of the lane on hole 5 was opened up greatly making a par 4 much more reasonable and possible.

There are unofficially: 1 par 5, 5 par 4's, 2 ace runs, and the rest are par 3's (8 of which may be par 3.5's). Par is 61, I think the tweeners will make it higher, at least 64.

It's still pretty rough but rec players have found it and are already playing it. Any questions PM me. Thanks

Thanks for the update, Tim!

For the record, I thought the course was eminently playable when I was there even back in July. The fairways are definitely there and the lanes are quite appropriate. The course is certainly there for people to play if they can negotiate their way through it.

Really, this is the only issue with the course - signage, and being able to find your way around. The tees are basically unmarked and tough to find, and the lion's share of the baskets are all misnumbered. It was kind of like a treasure hunt trying to figure it out (luckily I had my wife along to assist in the endeavor)

If all the tees could be marked with even a rudimentary tee number sign (like they had at Jordan a few years ago) and all the baskets numbered properly, I think the course would explode in popularity. As you've surely seen over the years at various courses, all it takes is people using the course and the "roughness" dissolves away quite readily. Course maps at the first tee (and one posted online here) would also go a long way.

Thanks to all who are contributing to this course. Again, when the course is finished it is going to be one of the toughest and very best courses in Pennsylvania, which is really saying something considering the number of world class courses we already have.
