Fact- The Lenape word Nockamixon translates to "place of soft soil" in english.
I'm sure the area has much soft soil to offer, just not on holes 6, 7, 13 and 14. I began reading up on the history of the park after a friend told me that at one point Lake Nockamixon never existed, that at some point the Tohickon Creek was damed and dump trucks filled with water were brought in to fill in the man made lake. He also told me that there was a town in the middle of where they built the lake and they didn't even bother to tear down any of the homes/barns. This actually isn't true as I researched further and found that the engineers did in fact tear down what homes/barns there so as to cut out the risk of creating undercurrents. There is however a very historic bridge that was not torn down. There are also roadways that still exist under the water. I'm tempted to get some suba diving gear. Kev- |

i often wondered what that was on 13, it looks like some sort of foundation / driveway. Do you know why the one pond has stairs leading down to it? |

I think more likely it was a nice swimming pond and the steps led down to it.

Another useless Nocky fact: There is a cave submerged under Lake Nocky. "Indian Cave" was a haunt of local highwaymen in the days of yore. Rumor has it that they would use it as a hideout ofter their rape/pillage/debauchery escapades throughout the region...
