Ice Bowl 2011 Coming Soon

Everyone’s favorite opportunity to play in winter’s worst elements is coming up real soon. Save the date, mark it on a calendar, write a memo in the snow. This classic charity event is Saturday January 29th. Sign-ins are at 9AM and don’t forget to bring food for our pot luck lunch between rounds. Enjoy the flavors of chili and stew and cornbread.

Charity to be supported: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley (the W9 form is attached for tax purposes, especially if your employer wants to donate. Click here.)
Charity Fundraising Goals: $1000 and 50 lbs of food
2 rounds from the concrete tees
$20 pro/am
$15 women/novice

Ams get ice bowl disc with entry
Everyone gets a mini
Accepting monetary and non-perishable food items to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley

November 2010 Glo and Ammo Events

Come and join us for two fun filled events at our Jordan Creek course. The first is an annual Halloween/Fall classic. It is a Glo event this Saturday November 6th starting at 6PM and is one round of mischief. The other event is our monthly ammo on November 14th at 10AM.

Nockamixon HooDoo Single Spots Going Fast

As of Saturday October 2nd, we already filled 57 spots. We predict this event to be filled by the end of next week so move fast or you will be watching from the parking lot. Check out the player’s list located on PDGA.

Nockamixon Workday Weekend: October 9-10, 2010. 10:00am both days.
We have stone in the lots to use to re-level the tees. The park dropped stone at 8 of the holes already.
We are going to need a truck to haul some around to the rest of them. Re-level, tamp, and re-lay the mats.
Also a good time to get rid of some of the prickers and other approved foliage.
We will also be extending hole 5 to make it a true par 5.
If you can please come out and lend a hand that would be great, you might need the good karma the following weekend .

Charity Tournament at Parkway

On September 25th, there will be a PDGA C -Tier charity event held at the Little Lehigh Parkway. This event is being run by Mr. Discgolf, Mike Solt, and is a benefiting Alliance for Building Communities.

Local Ace Race Coming October 2nd

Have you heard about Discraft’s Ace Race format? Played in one? Basically it is a one throw and done per hole. Regular course holes are modified and shortened to allow more opputunities for runs at the basket. Holes will generally be between 175 and 250 feet. The player with the most aces or basket hits wins.

October 2nd, Dodo’s Disc Golf Shop in Allentown is holding this event at the South Mountain course in Bethlehem. Preregistration can be done on Mr. Discgolf’s website.

The player’s package alone is worth the $25 fee. You get two prototype discs in ESP plastic (that must be used in the event), full color mini, Discraft hat, sticker, and an Ace Race bag tag.

Sportsfest 2010 is PDGA C-Tier

That’s right. The LVDC is turning the massively popular Sportsfest event a PDGA sanctioned tournament. This will be a 2 day event with the Pros playing on Saturday July 17 and Ams playing on Sunday July 18.

Prior Sportsfest Disc Golf Champions

New LV Disc Golf Website Coming

As you may of noticed over the last two months is various issues with the Lehigh Valley Disc Golf website. The content management system we were using was first plaqued with false user accounts being created and spam postings made to our message board. This was all part of a vulnerabiltiy in the software. Various steps were taken to remedy this issue. During this process another vulnerabilty reared its ugly head and basically made the site useless. Links to various articles, message board postings, files, and photos pulled up a blank page. Various efforts were performed to bring the site back to an operational state even using an archived backup from last summer. This still did not resolve the issue and I am unsure how long this vulnerability was hiding in the site.

At this time a new site is being developed using the WordPress blogging technology. This is the same software being used on the Bearclaws site and I and Mike Solt have been developing other sites using WordPress. This software allows high security measures and easy upgrading of patches to any exploits that may be found.

Unfortunately, a lot of items we were used to are either lost or may take some time to restore the information we had access to. Hopefully everything will be placed back in some way including photos, tournament results, and a new message board. I am trying to figure out a way to import any posts from the prior message board but that may be a loss cause and is on the back burner until other issues are ironed out on our site.

I apologize for any inconvience that this may of caused especially during our Ice Bowl season. This will actually be a blessing in disguise in the long run.
